I was reading my usual favorite blogs today (after I voted) and I was struck by just how much John Chow is earning. I have always stayed squarely on the pulse of blog experts because they know where it’s at and that’s where I want to be.
Even with the credit crisis, John Chow managed to earn over 30k in October. So what’s the top earners secret? Diversity. The key to long term income and success on your blog is to be diverse in your revenue streams. If you have a great blog but only target income from Google Adsense then you are missing a lot of money.
Affiliate programs continue to be really big earners, and while some say affiliate marketing is dying, I say no way and John Chow proves it. Look what he earned for October and where his income sources came from.
Affiliate Commissions: $12,652.52
Private Ad Sales: $10,290.00
Shoemoney Tools: $4000.00
ReviewMe: $4,000.00
Text Link Ads: $2,112.91
Kontera: $1,000.00
RSS Ads: $295.50
Total Income: $34,350.93
Clearly, he makes a lot of money offering affiliate programs and the other secret is residual income. For example, he promotes ShoeMoney tools and Shoe offers lifetime residual on sign up’s referred so John can continue to make money from a one time purchase.
If you want your blog to be successful then put effort into several ad markets, many good quality affiliate programs and add residual earners to the mix. He even managed to earn almost 300.00 by simply inserting ads into his RSS feed. How easy is that!
John shows us how to mix it up, and that my friend, is the key to success. Keep doing what you’re doing and diverse your income streams. When John first started his blog, he didn’t earn anything for 8 months. Look at him now. He doesn’t even have a HUGE Google PR. It’s a 3! That tells you the potential in this industry. Can you image being a PR7!
John has a list of money makers on his blog and it’s worth checking out.
